who I am
Rod Kemsley BSc, MSc, Dip Arch, RIAS
I am fully qualified, registered and insured to practice as an architect and have some thirty years’ experience in consultation, design and construction. This has encompassed a whole range of project types and scales but my focus has nearly always been on making the places where people really spend time, the ones that have the strongest influence on their daily lives - schools, workplaces and, most importantly, housing and houses.
I have lived and worked in several places but together with Christopher Platt I was a founding partner and for many years joint owner of the Glasgow practice, studio KAP. A number of the projects featured here date from that time.
I have always been drawn to the Highlands and am now based there, in Nethy Bridge, in the Cairngorms National Park. Here I run a private practice, helping to create buildings and places that make life better for both the people inside them and the world around them.
Fundamentally, whatever the project, I am an architect through and through. That means I love what I do and work together with people, budgets, materials, energy and landscapes of all shapes and sizes to find the combinations that really excel and endure. Every set of circumstances is a little bit different, every project presents new challenges.
